'Agneepath' overwhelms global box office, earns $3.2 mn

New Delhi, Feb 1 (IANS) After a record opening in the domestic market, filmmaker Karan Johar's "Agneepath" has tasted success in the overseas market by earning $3.2 million (Rs.160 million) since it opened Jan 26.

Eros International released the Hrithik Roshan-starrer on 337 screens worldwide. The film, directed by debutant Karan Malhotra, grossed 347,000 pounds in Britain in the first four days. In the US, the four-day collections were $1.3 million and in the UAE, "Agneepath" collected more than $800,000.

"'Agneepath' has done extremely well in all the overseas markets making it the first blockbuster of the year. The tremendous response has been very encouraging with all major markets indicating remarkable box office results," Pranab Kapadia, president, marketing and distribution, Eros International, said in a statement.

Meanwhile, after a record first day opening, the film is on its way to join the Rs.1 billion club as it has already earned Rs.750 million in the five days of its release. If trade experts are to be believed, the film is likely to do better as there is no big release in the coming weekend.

"All of us at Dharma Productions are ecstatic with the collections. It truly is the director Karan Malhotra's vision that has made it all possible. Revisiting a cult classic is a dating task....and he along with his brilliant cast and crew have helped create box office magic," said an overwhelmed Karan Johar, the producer.

"Agneepath" is the remake of 1990 film of the same name, but it was not a commercial success. However, Amitabh Bachchan got a national award for his performance. The new version of the movie has Hrithik playing the iconic Vijay Dinanath Chauhan.

Rishi Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt are getting rave reviews for their portrayals of Rauf Lala and Kancha Cheena respectively.

EK THA TIGER - It's the very title of this Salman Khan starrer that has managed to fetch instant attention for itself ever since its announcement. However both Salman as well as his director Kabir Khan understand that framing of a title is just the first step and while there is a huge journey ahead to actually shoot the film, the biggest challenge would be to cut the First Look promo.

"Honestly I feel that a title just gets the initial curiosity to help catch your attention but ultimately it is the First Look promo that turns out to be the deciding factor. Look at Salman's DABANGG as well as READY. The very first promo decided that these films would be huge successes," says Kabir who is enjoying his third outing with Yash Raj Films.

In the name of modesty, Kabir doesn't mention though about his very own NEW YORK benefiting out of a terrific First Look promo that had played continuously in theatres for months at stretch before the film eventually released and turned into a good success. Nevertheless he does admit that there was quite some time and effort that went into ensuring that whichever title was chosen, it truly reflected the theme, setting, mood and genre of the film.

Mumbai: Yash Raj Films who want to cast Salman Khan in Kabir Khan`s next project have offered him 33 per cent share in the total profits of the film.

Industry was abuzz with reports that Salman is at last ready to work with Yash Raj Films. He has apparently agreed to be cast in a film to be directed by ‘New York’ famed Kabir Khan.

However if sources are to be believed, it has appeared that Salman has not signed on the dotted line as yet but YRF is not leaving any effort behind to seal the deal with the megastar.

In fact, YRF tried making a special deal with Aamir Khan to rope him in for ‘Dhoom 3’ by agreeing to give him 33 per cent, apparently which didn’t materialize, so they are trying to make the same deal with Salman.

Couple of days ago before Salman left for Bangkok to shoot for Aneez Bazmee`s ‘Ready’, Aditya Chopra and Kabir visited Salman`s house to make the offer to him. Kabir also met Salman a few days ago to narrate him the script, which the actor had loved.

The Hindi remake of Malayalam hit 'Bodyguard' with Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor in a leadership role is set to go on the plants before the movie and co-producer Atul Agnihotri has rejected the reports entitled "My love affair '.

Ready may be months away from release but is definitely one of the most awaited films of 2011. After all, it brings the hit combination of Salman Khan and Anees Bazmee together, years after No Entry. Also, it would be the third Bollywood outing for Asin Thottumkal, who waited for a long time to sign a new film after Ghajini and London Dreams.

However, the lady in question found herself in the news for all the wrong reasons again, with a piece of rumour floating on the net. The buzz is that she shares a steamy scene with Salman in the film and has finally let go off her imagination. The fact is that it is not true.

Says a highly placed source associated with Ready, "No, Asin hasn't shot for any such scene in Ready. The film doesn't need that. This is someone's imagination really running wild. Asin knew that such a piece of news has been floating around for the last few days but she decided to stay low."

Why not raise an early alarm?

"You can't stop people from speculating. Some people write things that do not carry any semblance of truth,” continues the source, "Asin has been in the industry for long and understands that such news pieces do float around. She decided to let it go so that it could die a silent death in due course of time. However, when certain reputed publications and glossies also fell for the so-called piece of information, she thought it was best to clarify."

One would have expected Asin to be all fired up when confronted with the query to unveil the truth. But surprisingly, one heard a giggle from her and though it didn't convey a 'care-a-damn' gesture, Asin was stern and sure in her denial.

"I am rather amused to hear this because I haven't shot any steamy scene with Salman in Ready,” Asin said.

With the lady at the hot seat going on the records about her act in the film, there is of course no room for any more speculation or rumour.

"To think of it, the speculation by itself stands on a flimsy ground,” smiles Asin, "Ready is a family entertainer. Now, tell me where would such a scene feature in it in any case? It's really weird that someone actually thought of bringing out such news for a movie like this where there is no scope for such a sequence in any case."

The latest news is that Salman Khan has been signed up by Ramesh Taurani for his next venture. However, Taurani states, "Actually, we had signed Salman much before Dabangg, for the remake of Amar Akbar Anthony."

However, the plans to remake Amar Akbar Anthony have been dropped and now Taurani wants to start a new project with the star. Says Ramesh Taurani, "Since we already have Salman on board, we have decided to make a totally different film. The film will be directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and we have already locked the script."

As for the details regarding the cast and of the yet untitled venture, Taurani says, "Though we have already locked the script, we are yet to finalise on the rest of the cast. The film will go floor only next year. Apart from this, I cannot say much now as it's still too early."

Well, let's hope that Sallu, who is currently enjoying a high phase in his career, continues with it through next year as well.

Bollywood actor Salman Khan has appealed his fans to maintain peace in the wake of the Ayodhya-Babri Masjid verdict expected to be announced on September 28.

The actor said that Hindus, Muslims, Christians, Sikh and people from all religious communities are brothers. He added that we should not fight but stay united and love each other.

The Allahabad High Court was supposed to announce the much-delayed Ayodhya-Babri Masjid verdict today but the Supreme Court postponed the announcement to 28 September to see any possibility of an out-of-court settlement of the dispute.

Knowing that the verdict could go anybody's favour, which could lead to communal violence and riot, Salman has pleaded his fans to maintain peace.

Arbaaz Khan Says: Dabangg 2 will happen

Dabangg is setting new records and Arbaaz Khan is, naturally, ecstatic. "I expected the film to perform very well, but I never expected it to emerge the biggest opener," Arbaaz admits honestly. But the actor turned film-maker isn't resting on laurels, but has decided to keep the momentum going by promoting the film on weekdays as well.

Arbaaz is not in a hurry to start his next production either. In fact, the news doing the rounds is that the Khan-daan is planning to start Dabangg 2. It's said that they might call it Robinhood Pandey or Chulbul Pandey. Arbaaz smiles, "Yes, there's a 110 per cent possibility that we will start Dabangg 2, but when that will happen is yet undecided. See, Salman has several commitments to fulfill, so Dabangg 2 will take some time to start. But it's definitely on the cards."

With Dabangg opening to an overwhelming response, the enthusiasm to acquire the Tamil and Telugu version remaking rights has increased overnight. In fact, Arbaaz has already received several lucrative offers for the same. "I am still studying the market. We will take a call later," he states.

It's a known fact that Aamir has released his films in the Christmas weekend - Taare Zameen Par (2007), Ghajini (2008) and 3 Idiots (2009) - and the results are astounding. Similarly, Salman has been lucky during Eid, with both Wanted (2009) and Dabangg (2010) proving mega-hits. Now, Salman and his producers have decided to continue with the trend of releasing the actor's new films on the festive occasion of Eid.

Although Salman's brother-in-law Atul Agnihotri hasn't started shooting the superstar's next venture My Love Story, a remake of the Malayalam hit Bodyguard), he has already decided to bring the film in Eid (2011).

The fight between good and bad has been the fodder of many a Hindi film of 1970s and 1980s. In fact, it wouldn't be erroneous to state that these films dominated the cinema of yore and a lot of us, who have grown up on masala films/wholesome entertainers, will vividly recall the serpentine queues outside cinema halls and a mad scramble to book the tickets of those films. Hardcore masala films were relished with glee by the audience then.

However, for some inexplicable reason, masala films became extinct or should I say, disappeared from the face of Hindi cinema over a period of time. GHAJINI and WANTED revived this genre, bringing back memories of the bygone era. Now DABANGG takes this genre one step ahead.

Be forewarned. DABANGG is rustic, has loads of action, harps on the age-old mother-son and varied relationships [half-brother, step-father], eventually turns into a vendetta fare, has a number of songs placed smartly in the narrative [including an item number]... but the packaging is slick and polished. Sure, it's old wine, but packed in a brand new bottle, with a new brand ambassador [Salman Khan] endorsing this masalathon.

Most importantly, it has Salman like never before. Breathing fire and venom, Chulbul Pandey aka Robinhood Pandey taps Salman's star power like no film has and the result is sheer magic. In fact, DABANGG stands on three pillars - Salman's star power, smashing stunts and super music.

Final word? Salman fans, rejoice! You walk in DABANGG with 100% expectations and you exit with 200% gratification. Entertainment guaranteed. This film will create a pandemonium of sorts, a mass hysteria, crushing old records and setting new benchmarks at the box-office.

Set in Uttar Pradesh, DABANGG is a story of Chulbul Pandey [Salman Khan], a totally fearless but corrupt police officer with unorthodox working methods. But even the most fearless at times face a tough fight with their innermost demons. Chulbul has had a bitter childhood. His father passed away when he was very young, after which his mother [Dimple Kapadia] married Prajapati Pandey [Vinod Khanna]. Together, they had a son Makhanchan [Arbaaz Khan].

Prajapati favors Makhanchan, which does not go down well with Chulbul. He decides to take control of his destiny and detaches himself from his step-father and half-brother. His sole attachment is his mother. However, after his mother's demise and an unsuccessful attempt to mend wounds, Chulbul snaps all ties with his step-father and half-brother.

Rajo [Sonakshi Sinha], with her unique perspective of life, enters his world and turns life upside down. Chulbul starts to see life more positively and also gets sensitized to the value of a family. But his detractors, especially the dubious Cheddi Singh [Sonu Sood], have their own vested interests and emerge as spokes in the wheels, putting one brother against the other. Makhanchan ends up carrying out an act oblivious to the consequences.

When Makhanchan realizes he has been used, he turns to Chulbul. Will Chulbul take his extended hand? Will the brothers be able to thwart their detractors?

The job of a promo is to give a gist of the film and prepare the audience well in advance about what to expect when they saunter into an auditorium. The promos of DABANGG have sent the right signals to the audience about it being a paisa vasool entertainer. Let's face it, DABANGG has nothing ground-breaking to offer as far as its plot is concerned. We've visited similar stories in the past, but what makes DABANGG shine, and shine brightly, is Salman's star power, which camouflages the aberrations wonderfully. The darling of the masses has been cast in a role that his fans love to see him in, which explains why this film works from start to end.

Like I pointed out earlier, DABANGG is special for two more reasons: S. Vijayan's stunts and Sajid-Wajid's music, with an additional song by Lalit Pandit. Talking of action scenes, Salman's introduction at the start and the fight-to-finish in the climax will send the masses in frenzy. To state that the action scenes are outstanding, especially the fight in the finale, would be an understatement. In the finale fight, when Salman's shirt tears apart and the rippling muscles and the bare-chest fight ensues, mark my words, it will lead to chaos at mass-dominated centres, especially at single screens. The climax will be one of the prime reasons for repeat viewing, for sure.

It's difficult to accommodate music in an action film, but Sajid-Wajid come up with a melodious score. The title track, 'Tere Mast Mast Do Nain' and 'Munni' [composed by Lalit Pandit] are the icing on the cake.

Director Abhinay Singh Kashyap is in his element. He's made an out and out entertainer with an eye at the masses and he succeeds in his endeavour. Doing justice to vintage formula is no cakewalk, let's not forget. Besides, the director stays away from going overdramatic while handling the dramatic and emotional moments. This explains why you don't exit the theatre with a spinning head. Mahesh Limaye's cinematography is perfect. I'd like to make a note of the editing [Pranav V. Dhiwar], which is super-slick in action scenes. Dialogue, especially those delivered by Salman, will be greeted with claps and whistles. Especially the one 'Itne chhed karunga'.

Salman Khan is the boss, when it comes to playing to the masses. This film reaffirms this truth. The role provides him ample opportunity to prove his star power and he does it with remarkable ease. Let me put it on record. DABANGG is yet another landmark film in his career, besides MAINE PYAR KIYA, HUM AAPKE HAIN KOUN, JUDWAA [tapping the funny side], TERE NAAM [tapping the emotional side] and WANTED.

Sonakshi Sinha looks fresh, acts confidently and pairs off very well with Salman. Most importantly, she delivers the right expressions and is not overpowered by the galaxy of stars in the cast. Arbaaz Khan is efficient. He underplays his part well. Sonu Sood is electrifying, matching up to Salman at every step. In fact, the fight in the finale between Salman and Sonu is awe-inspiring.

Vinod Khanna is excellent in a role that has grey shades. Dimple Kapadia is truly wonderful. Anupam Kher is, as always, good. Ditto for Om Puri. Mahesh Manjrekar doesn't get ample scope. Mahi Gill is alright. Tinnu Anand is effective. Murli Sharma is nice. Malaika Arora Khan sizzles in the 'Munni' track.

On the whole, DABANGG is a full on entertainer with three aces - Salman Khan like never before, stylish action and super music. It's a foregone conclusion that DABANGG will open huge. As far as the business prospects are concerned, the film will set new benchmarks, so much so that DABANGG will be one of the yardsticks to gauge the level of business in times to come. Sure to fetch an earth-shattering opening, the film will create a pandemonium at the box-office, cementing the status of Salman Khan as the darling of the masses and making the distributors laugh all the way to the bank. It has Blockbuster written all over it!

New Delhi, Aug. 18 -- In an interview to TV channel Headlines Today, Salman Khan has strongly suggested that he has broken up with Katrina Kaif.

He also said that they continue to be friends. "I have broken up with Katrina.

We were friends then for everybody, we are friends now," Salman said. The actor was quoted by the channel as saying, "Koi cheez tootati hain toh isliye kyonki ya to different ways chali gayi hai, ya ek shakhs ki growth nahin hui, ya ek ne kuch aur path chun liya hai, ya sensibility samajh mein nahi aati, ya thinking galat ho gayi hain (A relationship breaks if it gets stretched in different directions, or one person does not grow, or the other person takes a different path, or there is some misunderstandingor they have grown out of love.

Salman Khan donates his blood

Mumbai, Aug. 17 -- Even before he started his Being Human Foundation, Salman Khan has been involved with many charitable causes.

So when he learnt that there was a blood donation drive at Santa Cruz's Khera Nagar on Sunday, he reached the venue with his Dabangg team at around 3:30 pm. But by then the camp had called it a day.

Khan wanted to call for a mobile van but when told that another camp was in progress at Bandra's Almeida Park, he proceeded there. Along with him, brothers, Arbaaz and Sohail, Dabangg's leading lady, Sonakshi Sinha, and director, Abhinav Kashyap donated blood.

"What's more, when Salman heard that the camp would continue for another couple of hours, he called his industry friends over," says a source. Soon, his buddies, Ameesha and Ashmit Patel, Farah Khan, Riteish Deshmukh, Dia Mirza and Dino Morea, sister Arpita and sister-in-law Malaika Arora Khan, had turned up.

Even Khan's security queued up to donate blood. And just before the camp wound up at around 9:30 pm, Aamir Khan and Kangna Ranaut also showed up.

Dabangg Salman always fears losing close people

Bollywood star Salman Khan, who essays the role of a fearless cop in upcoming action flick 'Dabangg' says unlike in reel life, he always dreads losing his loved and dear ones.

"In my personal life, I am always afraid of losing my loved and dear ones...family and friends. Want everyone to be fit and fine and have a healthy life. Even when a police jeep, which is on patrol, comes in our apartment there is a fear.. now what happened? And the same way, if the phone rings in wee hours, we all are worried who is calling at this time", said Salman.

Recalling an instance when his brother Sohail rang up in the early hours, Salman said, "I remember once Sohail had called up in the morning hours and started weeping profusely.. I got worried and kept asking him what happened.. but he said he called me to say that he loves me. I yelled at him...saying is this the time to state this? Don't do this next time..".

However, the 44-year-old actor admits he has nothing to worry about his filmy career. "Today, I do not hold any apprehensions or fear about my career as I am there in the industry for 20 years...the younger generation might be (scared)...," Salman said.

Dabangg (fearless) directed by Abhinav Singh Kashyap and produced by Arbaaz Khan, is set in Uttar Pradesh and primarily deals with the unlawful practices in the state.

"I play the role of a corrupt but fearless police officer, named Chulbul Pandey. He has a bitter childhood but his life changes once he meets his lady love."

The film also stars debutante Sonakshi Sinha as the female lead besides Om Puri, Dimple Kapadia, Vinod Khanna, Mahesh Manjrekar, Arbaaz Khan, Mahi Gill and Sonu Sood in supporting roles.

My 'Dabangg' moustache is like Shatruji's: Salman Khan

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan says his moustache in 'Dabangg' is an attempt to look like the character and is similar to the one kept by actor and politician Shatrughan Sinha in real life.

"I wanted to look like my onscreen character Chulbul Pandey and not like Salman Khan. I am wearing the moustache because the role demanded one. It is a thin moustache, similar to the one Shatruji keeps," said the actor, who plays a corrupt policeman in the movie.

The 44-year-old actor was in the capital with the cast and crew of the film, including deabutante Sonakshi Sinha, director Abhinav Singh Kashyap and producer Arbaaz Khan for its music launch.

Sajid-Wajid, who have scored the music for many a Salman Khan film including 'Wanted' and 'Main Aur Mrs Khanna', has composed for 'Dabangg' as well.

When asked about his continued association with them, Salman said, "They are good in their work, especially with songs which demand a certain attitude. I have worked with them for years now, just like I did with Himesh Reshammiya, but he has become a famous actor himself and I cannot sign him anymore."

The film has a raunchy track 'Munni Badnam' where Salman is seen dancing with actress Malaika Arora Khan, famous for her item numbers in films like 'Dil Se' and 'Kaal'.

When asked who can give competition to Malaika in terms of dancing, Salman said, "I think only Shilpa Shetty can."

The actor also refuted rumours of a renewed relationship with his ex-girlfriend and actress Sangeeta Bijlani, whose marriage with former Indian skipper Mohammad Azharuddin is reportedly on the rocks.

"Sangeeta is a dear friend, and so is Azhar," said Salman.

New Delhi, Aug 7 (IANS) Bollywood star Salman Khan, who has gyrated to sizzling number 'Munni Badnaam' with his sister-in-law Malaika Arora Khan in 'Dabangg', says apart from her only actress Shilpa Shetty can be counted among the best item girls in the industry.

'Shilpa Shetty is very good in item numbers,' Salman told reporters on being asked which actress according to him gives competition to Malaika as far as item numbers are concerned.

Shilpa is popular for her sensuous moves in the song 'U.P., Bihar lootne', and 'Chhaiya chhaiya' girl Malaika has featured in many item songs like 'Hoth raseele', 'Kaal kaal', and 'Mahi ve'.

While it took a little while for Salman to answer, his younger brother Arbaaz, who is married to Malaika, flattered his wife by saying: 'Malaika gives competition to herself.'

The actors, along with the cast and crew of 'Dabangg', were in the capital for the music launch of the film late Friday.

Salman maintained his habit of coming late and appeared with his team two and a half hours later than the scheduled time. However, he infused energy into the event as soon as he took to the stage.

The 44-year-old actor has always been known for his unique dance steps in all his films. In 'Dabangg' too, he has done some very catchy steps which are fast becoming a rage among youngsters.

But Salman gives little credit to his choreographer Farah Khan for his dance. 'I have taken my steps from a doctor I once met in London. He had a different style of dancing, so I picked my belt step from him,' he said.

'There is another step which I have picked from Arbaaz. It's his all-time favourite step and again there's one which is from my make-up man Raju,' he added.

'My steps are a mix from all these people, and yes, there is one step by Farah Khan also. Out of four steps that she gave me, I picked one,' Salman quipped.

'Dabangg', which is Arbaaz's first movie as a producer, has been directed by debutant Abhinav Kashyap, the younger brother of acclaimed director Anurag Kashyap.

The film is set in a small Uttar Pradesh town and has Salman in the role of a policeman. It is the launch vehicle for Shatrughan Sinha's daughter Sonakshi, and is slated for a September release.

Salman to play lead in Satte Pe Satta remake

Salman Khan clearly seems to be the man of the money and the most Wanted man after his previous movies being declared a super hit all over India. Now with Main Aur Mrs. Khanna released it would be a day or two with crossed fingers before they get the audiences response and the box office weekend collections to see how the movie has been received. In the mean time brother, Sohail Khan is in deep talks with Mr. Sippy as he is trying to get the rights for the remake of the movie Satte Pe Satta.

Sohail confirms the news and revealed that he has already met Raj Sippy and Romu Sippy and they have at length discussed about selling the rights for a remake. He says it could still take up to around half a month before everything is finalized. A formal announcement would be made then. He could control his excitement having the idea of making the classic family entertainer all over again.

Now Salman Khan would be portraying the double role of both the characters Babu and Ravi that was essayed to perfection by Amitabh Bachchan in the original flick but that is the easy part. There are still six others brothers they got to caste and then the female leads. Movie Review of London Dreams

In real life, if you feel your colleague is far more superior to you in intelligence, talent, charisma, efficiency, chances are you might feel the heat. Jealousy, generally, stems from there. In the process, the best of relations get strained. London Dreams, directed by Vipul Shah, talks of two musicians, thick pals actually, and how jealousy drives a wedge in their friendship.

Let's clear a few myths before discussing the positive and negative factors of this film. London Dreams is not Baiju Bawra. London Dreams is not Rock On!!, Abhimaan, Yaarana or Saajan either [a section of the industry wants us to believe that]. The truth is, London Dreams borrows from Milos Forman's brilliant film Amadeus [1984], which was based on Salieri and Mozart's life. In fact, Suneel Darshan too had made a film based on Amadeus called Shakalaka Boom Boom [2007; Bobby Deol, Upen Patel].

London Dreams is a complete departure from Vipul Shah's earlier outings, Aankhen, Waqt Namastey London and Singh is Kinng [produced by Vipul, directed by Anees Bazmee]. This film is about relationships and tends to get very real and intense, in the post-interval portions specifically. The scale of London Dreams is gigantic and the execution of concerts [it's about a band] sweeps you off your feet.

In terms of execution, it wouldn't be erroneous to state that London Dreams is amongst Vipul Shah's most accomplished works to date. Also, it boasts of incredible performances by Salman Khan and Ajay Devgn. But there are hiccups too and it's these deficiencies that bog the film down!

They were childhood friends. But they had little in common except their family's connection with music. While Arjun's [Ajay Devgn] life was consumed by a passionate drive to get on stage and realize his grandfather's unfulfilled dream, Mannu [Salman Khan] was content with remaining a child at heart with no higher ambition than enjoying the good things in life.

As Arjun forges a band with Zoheb [Rannvijay Singh], Wasim [Aditya Roy Kapur] and Priya [Asin], a music enthusiast from a conservative South Indian family, far away in Punjab, music becomes a survival tool for Mannu, who takes to playing in wedding bands in his village.

Arjun gets Mannu to London and makes him a part of the band, but soon realizes he's created the biggest threat and obstacle to his own ambitions.

Mannu, with his inherent musical gift, becomes an instant darling of the crowds. Arjun's unbearable pangs of jealously and insecurity only worsen when Mannu also unwittingly woos and wins his secret love, Priya. As he battles his inner demons, Arjun slowly devises a sinister plan to destroy his best friend.

It takes time to get into Ajay's world [its Ajay who's narrating the story here]. The film moves back and forth and it's only when the two buddies, now adults, meet that you realize where the story is headed. The first hour depicts the two extreme characters - Ajay, who's an introvert and who cannot think of anything but his goal and Salman, a happy-go-lucky guy, laidback and fun-loving, least focused.

The narrative has some interesting moments in the first hour, but the actual story unravels only towards the second half. The first half, frankly, only sets things up for the explosive drama that is to follow. The wheels start moving when Ajay plays a vicious game and hatches a conspiracy to ruin his buddy's career.

It's the second hour that does the trick. You can't help but carry several sequences in your heart, even after you've made an exit from the auditorium...

* Note the scene when Salman makes four different tunes from the original tune created by Ajay.

* Note the scene when Ajay meets an inebriated Salman and professes revenge, while Salman is completely clueless about Ajay's sinister plans.

* Note the scene when the band arrives in London after a 3-city concert and they're received by aggressive mediapersons.

But there're roadblocks too. Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy's music is a downer. London Dreams is about a rock band, about music, about concerts and the music had to be the soul of the film. Unfortunately, it's not! The songs have been filmed in the most energetic fashion, but how one wishes its music was one of the strengths of the film.

Also, the film could've concluded when the two friends re-unite at the station. Adding one more song thereafter only dilutes the impact of the emotionally correct sequence that has just been witnessed. Besides, the song in question hasn't been promoted either, so it only comes across as an aberration.

Prior to that, Ajay's outburst at the end of the concert is far from convincing. The film has a real feel, real characters and real situations, but the outburst looks unreal and is one of the drawbacks, from the writing point of view. It's just not convincing!

Besides, Ajay's childhood character is shown fleeing from the airport and making it big in a foreign land [London], without any support whatsoever. It's unpalatable! Vipul Shah has handled this intricate subject well, but the writing could've been tighter. Sejal Shah's cinematography is super. Brownie points for capturing the concerts brilliantly. Salim-Sulaiman's background score matches international standards.

Both Salman and Ajay vie for top honours. Salman has a role that the junta would take to instantly and the actor too endears himself to the viewers. He's stupendous. When it comes to displaying intensity on screen, very few can live up to the standards set by Ajay. To state that he packs in a power-packed performance would be an understatement. They, in fact, compliment each other wonderfully well.

Asin is admirable and pairs off very well with Salman. She is sure to have a new name after this film - Chennai Express [that's how Salman addresses her affectionately, all through the film]. Om Puri has a brief role. Aditya Roy Kapur is very good and registers an impact. Rannvijay Singh doesn't get much to do, except throw nasty looks at Salman. Manoj Pahwa provides some funny moments. Brinda Parekh is okay.

On the whole, London Dreams has superb performances from its principal cast and several emotionally-charged sequences as its two trump cards. But its biggest drawback is its climax and also the music, which is the weakest link of the movie. At the box-office, the film should appeal more to the multiplex audience than the masses. Business at big centres, especially at metros, should be better, but mini-metros and towns will be a contrast.

Vipul Shah is least perturbed about the downright pathetic box-office response that Main Aurr Mrs Khanna has generated. Though there have been murmurs once again around the box office pull of Salman Khan (considering the fact that his latest film couldn't even garner a face saving initial), Vipul Shah comes up with a strong reasoning in defense of his leading man from London Dreams.

"Audiences have smartened up today and they know what they would get to see in the film. In case of Main Aurr Mrs Khanna, they could sense from the very beginning that Salman was only in an extended special appearance. Now they all want to see him in a full fledged role and this is why they made beelines for Wanted that has enjoyed such a terrific run ever since it's release. They want their stars to have the movie rest on their shoulders and when a movie gives them anything lesser, they look for other options", argues Vipul who is quick to confirm that Salman is the hero of the film, just like Ajay Devgn, and has a full fledged role in London Dreams.

Another example that he shares is that of Billu where Irrfan Khan was the central protagonist instead of Shahrukh Khan.

"Salman fans had all the right reasons to believe that Main Aurr Mrs Khanna was akin to Billu as far as the screen space given to their favourite hero was concerned", says Vipul, "Otherwise how else can one explain the fate of Billu which didn't open well in spite of Shahrukh having a song and dance routine with as many as four gorgeous actresses? The movie had such brilliant music but still it failed to bring in audiences."

"This is the reason why I am not at all worried about London Dreams since from day one, the right perception has been created for audiences that Salman is a key protagonist in the film", says Vipul, "He is one man who can get audiences if they smell from distance that what is he going to give them. I hope that the right messaging has gone to the audiences already."

Vipul Shah decided to give his favourite actor Akshay Kumar a break, and cast Ajay Devgn and Salman Khan instead in his new film, London Dreams.

The director of such films like Aankhen, Waqt: The Race Against Time and Namaste London hopes to churn out another hit in this film about a rock band.

What is London Dreams about?

London Dreams is about the journey of two friends from childhood to adulthood. Originally from Punjab, they dream of going to London, forming a band and conquering the world of music. Trouble starts when one becomes more popular than the other, and both fall in love with the same girl.

Is London Dreams like a musical drama?

We don't make musicals like Chicago or Moulin Rouge. Our musicals are different. My film would be closer to Mamma Mia. So yes, it is a musical film with Indian standards. There are eight songs in the movie.

Why London?

The trend of going to London is peculiar to Punjab. I based the story on this existing phenomenon.

'Two flops don't matter to Salman's career'

Prem Soni is one lucky director. In his very first film, he has managed to rope in Bollywood's top stars -- Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor. Not only that, he's also releasing his film Main Aurr Mrs Khanna on the Diwali weekend, a much-coveted Friday for most producers when the biggest movies get released.

Quite an achievement for for the first-timer, who lived in Spain for 17 years before he joined the Hindi film industry.

"I come from a business background," he says. "I had no connection with the film industry. But I've always wanted to make a film."

He decided to pursue his passion by getting the basics right. "I worked in television for more than a decade before I decided to do films," he says.

He spent two years writing on different subjects until he came out with the script for Main Aurr Mrs Khanna. And it was this script that attracted his lead stars -- and producer Sohail Khan -- to his film.

I’ve seen loads of Salman films and the quality that stands out in him as an actor is his unpredictability. I didn’t know him at all before working with him, he took me by surprise. In spite of being a huge star he’d sit down with me and talk about relationships and marriage. He is a delight to work with.

Did Karisma convince Kareena to work in this film?
I’ve known Bebo and Lolo for a long time now, they are friends. They were aware of this film for a long time but Kareena’s ‘Jab We Met’ did well and I wasn’t sure if she’d do it. She went through the script and liked it. Salman’s presence in it and as Karisma puts it ‘Bebo’s title role’ made Bebo sign the film. Bebo never refused, nor Lolo convinced her, Bebo was always close to this film.

Salman and Kareena both being unmarried in real life, wasn’t portraying a married couple a bit difficult for the duo?
Both Salman and Kareena are in an intense relationship with their respective partners in real life and an intense relationship is as good as a marriage. Salman was the first name that came to my mind while casting for this film.

Many feel Kareena looks way younger than Salman in the film’s promos.
Once people see this film they will say what a wonderful couple they are. Kareena is just like Julia Roberts – she is elegant and sophisticated.

Your film will clash with Blue, All the Best... two big films on Diwali.
Fashion and Golmaal Returns too released on same day but both did well. I hope the same happens here also with due respect to all films I hope ‘The Best Wins’. People haven’t seen a good love story post ‘Jab We Met’ for a long time now.

Bollywood star Salman Khan went out of his way and gifted a branded bag worth Rs.250,000 to his Main Aurr Mrs. Khanna co-star Kareena Kapoor.

Kareena and Salman went shopping together in Australia while they were shooting for the film and the young actress fell for a Dolce and Gabbana handbag.

"Kareena would usually land up shopping in the evenings after the shoot in Australia. She would go alone. But on one occasion, Salman accompanied her too," said a unit source.

"She instantly liked a Dolce and Gabbana bag, stepped in and bought it. When she was about to pay the storekeeper refused to take the money saying it had already been paid for. Kareena stood zapped and wondered who could be that generous soul. It was only later that she got to know that it was Salman who had paid," the source added.

The two actors plays main leads in Prem Soni's directorial debut Main Aurr Mrs.Khanna. Sohail Khan, who has co-produced the movie with UTV SpotBoy Pictures, is also starring in it.

The film is scheduled for release October 16.

Salman nightmare for Vipul Shah!

Vipul Shah’s London Dreams has turned into a bit of a nightmare. First there is the Salman spree of three back-to-back releases to be dealt with. Now Vipul Shah has another biggie dropping into the same space on Friday as his London Dreams.

As of now Vipul has stopped all Salman-centric publicity for London Dreams. The Salman season has begun full-swing. After the whopping Wanted it is Salman’s home production Mr & Mrs Khanna on October 16 followed by Vipul Shah’s London Dreams on October 30. Is this a case of a Salman overkill? Vipul doesn’t think so. But he has put a halt to all publicity involving Salman for London Dreams until Mr & Mrs Khanna is released on October 16. “There’s no point in a publicity overlap. I don’t want audiences to be confused or annoyed by repeated and overlapping images of Salman’s films. Fortunately for me both Wanted and Mr & Mrs Khanna are very different from my film, and from one another. However, it’s finally the same Salman. So, I’d rather not waste his publicity dates or my efforts to get the film noticed.”

All publicity involving Salman in London Dreams has come to a halt. And Vipul is looking at a new strategy to promote his film. “I’m waiting and observing the way Mr & Mrs Khanna is being promoted. My challenge is to now present Salman differently from the way he was presented for Wanted and Khanna.” One of the ideas is to host a round of rock concerts in selected cities featuring Salman, Ajay Devgan and Asin since the film is about a music band. But at the moment Vipul is tightlipped on this. “It’s never wise to reveal your strategy. You never know who might decide to use it before you do.” Another problem has crept up on London Dreams from the back.

Sujoy Ghosh’s fantasy Aladin has been pre-poned from 13 November to 30 October. “I had gone ahead and planned an October 30 release with the producers’ guild’s assurance that there would be no other release. But now suddenly Aladin has been preponed to the same Friday as London Dreams. I hope neither of the films suffer,” Vipul has his fingers crossed.

No Entry 2 with double mazaa

‘Wanted’ is sitting at the top, enjoying its success. And here is its producer Boney Kapoor planning his next venture – a sequel of the superhit rib-tickling comedy ‘No Entry’.

Sources had it that the movie is going to be titled as ‘Be Positive – No Entry 2’ – based on the one-liner “Be Positive” that Anil Kapoor kept saying often in ‘No Entry’. The catch is that the trio of heroes – Anil Kapoor, Fardeen Khan and Salman Khan – will play double roles in the sequel. They will be co-starring with their earlier partners - Lara Dutta, Celina Jaitley and Esha Deol. However, it is doubtful about Bipasha Basu’s involvement. Three new heroines will be roped in to support the double-role heroes.

As earlier, Anees Bazmi too will be directing the newer version. It is said that the script is ready and the movie will go on floors by the end of the year. Boney Kapoor has also hinted that besides this, he has plans to bring a movie with his wife, for which he has got a good script.

Salman Khan, the macho man of bollywood who tasted success with his flick ‘Wanted’(wherein he plays a hit man opposite gorgeous Ayesha Takia) after a long time, has decided to celebrate the occasion by hosting a grand success party tomorrow at a Juhu’s hot night spot.

Katrina Kaif, Salman Khan’s sizzling hot girlfriend, has already extended her holiday for the big bash tomorrow and will be returning to shoot ‘Rajniti’ only after that. The buzz doing the rounds in the industry is that Salman Khan has spoken personally to chef and other people from the venue to make arrangements foolproof. He wants the party to have everything from his favorite chicken tikka to vegetarian dishes for those who would not have non-veg items.

Though Salman Khan has plans to invite Karan Johar and Farah Khan( close Shah Rukh Khan loyalists) but excluded from the guest list the names of King Khan, Bachchans(Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai for obvious reasons) and Vivek Oberoi.

Insiders reveal that the entire bash for the success of ‘Wanted’ is being meticulously supervised by Salman Khan himself. He has been taking care about every little detail and has even marked out that the DJ will be playing hit numbers from ‘Wanted’ and his other hit films on the occasion.

The buzz is that Salman Khan’s pleasure comes from the fact that ‘Wanted’ is likely to fetch around Rs 40 crores to distributors in India alone, and that too, after paying theatre rentals and other overhead expenses. In fact, sources close to Salman say that flick has already been declared as one of three biggest hits of the year.

Even in overseas territories, Salman’s latest flick has caught the imagination of the people. For instance, in Pakistan ‘Wanted’ has become the biggest bollywood flick to be released so far in such a limited period. Similar encouraging reports have also come in from other parts of the world.

The grapevine has it that Salman Khan has dual purpose in hosting such a huge bash for the success of his film. Insiders reveal that the main purpose of Sallubhai is to show his strength and influence in the industry to his rival Shah Rukh Khan camp, through this huge bash.

It may be recalled that Salman and Shah Rukh had a fight last year on the occasion of Katrina’s birthday bash and since then never miss a chance to pull each other legs or show their strength.

Salman has also not invited Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai for obvious reasons. Vivek Oberoi, who had apologized publicly, has still not managed to get Sallubhai’s reprieve and so not invited to the party.

This is Salman Khan’s week. Also, Inshallah, the kickstart to a powerful run at the box office with three new exciting and different films ready for release.

The first one, Boney Kapoor’s Wanted for Sahara One Motion Pictures and S K Films Enterprises that’s directed by Prabhu Devaa — yes, the same, opens today. I do not think there can be anybody in Mumbai who does not know about this. Boney has taken the film to town, and Salman is everywhere, from multiplex posters to bus-stop hoardings, with guns blazing, muscles rippling and hips swiveling, looking the irrepressible lean and mean killing machine. And why should he not, this is not Maine Pyar Kiya that he made 20 years ago, this is one man in an audacious 21st century war against the underworld.

It’s an out-and-out thriller, a violent film — Salman’s words, not mine; and he plays a hit man who speaks from the heart, has no loyalties or scruples, knows no fear, is arrogant, but is still the kind of hero that people need. “He takes the action a notch higher by his ruthless killings,” Salman said to me in a chat at his ground floor den in Galaxy Apartments, Bandra.

He’s not played this kind of role before. Nor did he prepare for the role, either. “I don’t think anybody prepares for a role,” Salman said, frowning when I asked the question. “Maybe Aamir trained his body for one scene in Ghajini and Shah Rukh did that for a song in Om Shanti Om... but I feel if you walk like the character in the film, and you can talk like him, then you’re set. I get that feeling with this role. It’s that kind of film. We need heroes. It’s time for people to stand up against all odds. That’s what this character does.”

He was at his charming best, like the affable host of Dus Ka Dum, but the ponytail was untied, and he ran impatient fingers through his long hair. All around us, on the walls were his paintings; poignant, dark and silently expressive figures that listened intently out of their canvasses to our conversation. Art critics, I know, are notoriously stingy in their praise of his work, but I seriously thought the paintings were outstanding. Certainly not the kind of appealing, sensitive art you would expect out of a man who plays the cold-blooded killer on screen. Salman watched my scrutiny closely.

“That painting,” he said, pointing to a different splash of bright colour, “is Aamir’s... it’s his first canvas, he did it right here.” Then he was back to discussing films. It was easy to play his role in Wanted, he said, not because he identified with the character. “But because 20 years in films has given me a confidence, an intensity, that was not there earlier. In Maine Pyar Kiya, I was a kaccha baccha, but if I had to play that role now... that would require mehnat. The innocence, the awkwardness, the naivety, that am-I-doing-it-right feeling that I had for my first role, I would have to create all that now. Life teaches you... and if you want to learn, and you use its lessons at the right time, you’re fine.”

He, of course, has been through life’s fires, and he’s paying the price for whatever lessons he didn’t learn early on. But I didn’t want to remind Salman about that. I asked him, instead, about the action and dance sequences in Wanted... all of which he’s said to have excelled in. Salman’s face lit up. “The action is different,” he said, “I have not had body doubles, and cables have been used in only one or two scenes. It’s not action for the sake of action. The emotion here is at a different plane. This is not a body-body kind of action film. The man’s fight is not from the body, but from his heart. The strength comes from within. He’s like a Parsi, if he believes in something, he has the strength to take on the whole nation!”

As for dancing... it’s not that Salman can’t dance, and that it took Prabhu Devaa to lead him through his steps in Wanted. He’s danced in films like Judwaa before. “Doing one step took 15 days,” Salman admitted, shaking his head. “But I used to dance a lot, I even entered dance competitions in discotheques till I came of age and realised that to look cool I only needed to stand against pillars! I didn’t know then that if I’d learned breakdancing, I’d kick Hrithik’s ass today!”

Fans, rejoice, Salman is back with a vengeance with Wanted. This is his deadliest performance to date.

Yes, you read it right!

Foes, sorry, you won't be able to lash out at him or pick on him or launch a vicious tirade this time. The spate of flops should come to a grinding halt with Wanted.

Let's get this straight. Wanted rides on Salman Khan's star power. He may not be the best actor in town, but in a film like Wanted, in a role that seems like an extension of his personality, you can't think of anyone else enacting this role with flourish.

A remake of Pokiri (made in Telugu and Tamil), Wanted is a full on masala film. Recall the successful potboilers of yore. Recall how the good guy would reduce 10 hoodlums to pulp in a fraction of seconds. Recall how heroism prevailed in the end, no matter how adverse the circumstances were or how powerful the villains would be. Recall those movies in which logic took a backseat since the focus was on entertainment. You relive those moments as reel after reel of Wanted unfolds.

A departure from candyfloss movies and diabetic-sweet characters that most Hindi movies boast of, Wanted takes you back to those days when popular cinema reigned supreme, when the sole motive of the film-maker was to entertain.

The daring hero and his herogiri, the naïve girlfriend, the corrupt cop, the dreaded don, the don's moll, the fist-clinching henchmen. Wanted is for those who seek unabashed entertainment and relish masala films. Damn the indomitable critics, pseudo intellectuals and connoisseurs of parallel cinema, this one's not for them. Wanted is for the aam junta.

Radhe (Salman Khan) is a hardcore gangster. A sharpshooter with a sharp brain, he works for Gani Bhai (Prakash Raj), the dreaded Mafioso, but on his own terms. Totally fearless, Radhe single-handedly eliminates Gani Bhai's enemies one by one; making more enemies in the process.

He's astounded when the young and pretty Jahnvi (Ayesha Takia Azmi) professes her liking for him. Inspector Talpade's (Mahesh Manjrekar) lustful eyes fall on Jahnvi. He doesn't know that Jahnvi has developed a soft corner for Radhe.

Whether it's the Golden Gang or Data Pawle's Gang, everybody wants the biggest piece of the lucrative cake that is Mumbai and the only way to get it is to eliminate whoever gets in the way. As Mumbai reels under bloody gang wars, Commissioner Ashraf Khan (Govind Namdeo) vows to make the city crime free.

Director Prabhu Dheva serves a hardcore masala fare that's not inventive or path-breaking by any standard, but the execution of several scenes as also of stunts takes the graph of the film north. In fact, if at all there's any film that competes with Ghajini as far as raw appeal goes, it's Wanted. Every action/stunt/chase here is choreographed with aplomb.

Watch out for the action sequence at the interval point or the penultimate half-an-hour. The climax is sure to send scores of action lovers in frenzy, as Salman bashes the evil forces black and blue. It wouldn't be erroneous to state that the climax is worth the price of the ticket, samosa, sandwich, popcorn, nachos and cola put together.

Verdict: Four stars

Salman: Ayesha Takia not negative for WANTED!

Salman Khan's upcoming Eid release, WANTED, is becoming hotter and hotter. As the D-day approaches huge posters and cut outs of the film can be seen adorning the walls of single screens and multiplexes. So, what does Salman Khan feel about it? Salman rubbishes the talk saying that these are narrow minded talks which have no basis. Ayesha is an extremely professional actress and has done a terrific job in WANTED.

He added that today's audience has changed and many actresses are working after marriage and are very much in demand, both by the public as well as the producers. We must learn the fine art of doing favours from Kareena Kapoor.

She has done it yet again. A favour so sweet and subtle that it doesn’t even seem like one. And this time she’s not even complaining. Because it’s for some of her favourite people... sister Karisma Kapur and co-star Salman Khan. Apparently, Bebo had no dates at all for Main Aur Mrs Khanna and wouldn’t have been able to accommodate the film.

But it was mainly due to the great respect she has for Salman that she agreed. And of course, there’s another story... like Bebo told us herself. “My sister Lolo had first heard the story from Salman years ago; and she is a very dear friend of his. So she kept telling him to make it. And then she was keen that I do it. I agreed at once because I never say no to my sister and I’ve also known and loved Salman so totally as a star since I was a kid. Salman Khan is leaving no stone unturned to promote his flick Wanted. The actor is all set to make his small screen debut in the fiction show CID, on Sony. The coming weekend viewers will see their favourite star with CID team.

“He will be seen as Salman Khan himself, with the other star cast of his film Wanted. CID team gets the news of piracy of the film and Salman with them investigate the case and catch the culprit,” utters our khabroo.

Elaborating more on the show, our source adds, “Definitely Salman is for a short period of time, as the main focus will be on the look out for the culprit, who is involved in the piracy of the film. Through his presence, Salman will not only help CID, but also the channel to raise TRP’s.”

Main Aurr Mrs Khanna Music Review

EXPECTATIONS

When a movie stars Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor and belongs to the romantic genre, it is expected that it will boast of at least a couple of romantic numbers. Slight apprehensions do come from the fact that the director at the helm of affairs is a newcomer (Prem R Soni). However, considering the fact that the music has been composed by Sajid-Wajid (who have time and again given at least one chartbuster for each of the Salman films), Main Aur Mrs. Khanna does make you reasonably excited about the final prospects.

MUSIC

10 seconds into the song 'Don't Say Alvida' and you know for sure that Sajid-Wajid have a hit in hand at least in the form of this title track. Belonging to old school of music which has a timeless quality to it and has more often than not always worked, 'Don't Say Alvida' is a contemporary Bollywood love song while boasting of an out and out Indian melody. Coming close to the kind of music that one has heard in Salman's films like Har Dil Jo Pyaar Karega and Chori Chori Chupke Chupke, 'Don't Say Alvida' has Sonu Nigam at his best. The singer is heard in lesser number these days but when he croons a marvelous track like 'Don't Say Alvida', you don't mind the quantity. Shreya Ghoshal joins a little later in the day while Suzanne D'Mello is primarily a backup vocalist here. Still, they do make their presence felt in this Junaid Wasi written song that also appears in a well done 'remix' version and also a 90 seconds slow-n-sad version (a Shreya Ghoshal solo).

It's time to get into a 'Kajraare' [Bunty Aur Babli] mode with Sunidhi Chauhan bringing on 'Happening'. Even though the title gives an impression of an English number in the offering, 'Happening' is mainly a catchy term that plays throughout this 'qawalli' which is written by Jalees Sherwani. Picturised on Preity Zinta (yes, she too has an important role to play in the film), 'Happening' is a foot tapping number that takes just a couple of listening to register with the listener. A good number which has been created for the masses and yet doesn't turn vulgar at all, 'Happening' is fun, foot tapping and quite enjoyable for its duration. The number which also appears in a 'remix version', 'Happening' also has Wajid, Uvie, Farhad and Raja Mushtaq joining the show and deserves to be promoted aggressively.

From love, romance and dance, mood of the album becomes somber with 'Rabba'. With Rahat Fateh Ali Khan at the helm of affairs, you do expect the kind of outing that 'Rabba' would provide. A slow moving soulful track that does has a serene feel to it in spite of a sad theme, 'Rabba' is situational and yet effective. Jalees Sherwani spins a tale around the condition of the protagonist who has lost love in his life and is trying to explore things that went wrong. In the lines of 'Tanhai' [Dil Chahta Hai] and 'Ye Dooriyan' [Love Aaj Kal], 'Rabba' makes for a good hear.

The opening five seconds of 'Tum Ne Socha' do remind of the sound of 'Soniyo' [Raaz - the Mystery Continues] . However all similarity ends quite soon and Sajid-Wajid create a tune that does make you appreciate it during the first listening itself. One is assured that Wajid is taking his job quite seriously as a singer, courtesy his rendition of 'Tum Ne Socha' where he is indeed good. A soft rock track where he changes pitch from being subtle to full throated, 'Tum Ne Socha' is a very pleasant sounding duet with Shreya Ghoshal joining Wajid behind the mike. A beautiful contemporary song that has Arun Bhairav penning the lyrics.

Finally, the album ends on a fun note with the 'dhol beats' of 'Mrs. Khanna' being straight out of 'Pretty Woman' [Kal Ho Na Ho] . A fun track that is picturised on Sohail Khan and Kareena Kapoor, 'Mrs. Khanna' has a good rhythm to it which is straight out of the David Dhawan school of music. Heavy on orchestra, something that goes perfectly well with the genre of the song, 'Mrs. Khanna' is entertaining and should be a riot on screen if picturised well. Written by Jalees Sherwani and Suzanne, the number has Shaan and Sunidhi Chauhan as the prime singers with Bappi Lahiri, Neuman Pinto and Suzanne D'Mello also chipping in.

OVERALL

Main Aur Mrs. Khanna is a satisfying affair and you don't have any reasons to complain whatsoever. One expected at least a couple of chartbuster songs and Main Aur Mrs. Khanna remains consistent throughout with not a single number that doesn't work. The best of the lot though is 'Don't Say Alvida' followed by 'Tum Ne Socha' that are custom made for the romantic hearts. Meanwhile, 'Happening' should take further care of the album sales.

Salman Khan's Wanted cleared by Supreme Court

Thank God! Film lovers can now look forward to have good time next week, as Salman Khan's much-hyped film Wanted, is releasing as scheduled on September 18. The Supreme Court has granted reprieve to producer Boney Kapoor on the financial dispute, and thus paved the way for the release of the film.

The court allowed the release of the film after Boney Kapoor offered to deposit Rs.2 crore with the Bombay High Court as surety.

Salman's Wanted almost failed to see the light of day after L M B Holdings Limited, a B4U group company, claimed the rights to Wanted for an advance of Rs.10 crore paid in 2007 to produce films on joint venture.

Boney started making Wanted before he could strike a deal with L M B Holdings Limited. He was supposed to return the money within 90 days, as they failed to seal the agreement, but he didn't do so. Meanwhile, L M B Holdings Limited demanded the money only after one year and three months, claiming that it would have the rights of at least five films of the producer, including Wanted, if the money is not returned.

The Bombay High Court through an interim order had earlier asked Boney Kapoor to deposit Rs 10 crore with the court's registry as a security deposit. But the producer challenged the order and took the matter to the Supreme Court.

Main Aurr Mrs Khanna may surprise you

It is raining Salman Khan [ Images ] these days with two big releases, Wanted and Main Aurr Mrs Khanna set to hit the marquee.

Predictably, both Khan-starrers have music by Sajid-Wajid.

Main Aurr Mrs Khanna's soundtrack, however, stands out for two things. The overabundance of English hooks and lyrics and a rather interesting mix of singers, namely Sonu Nigam [ Images ], Wajid, Suzanne D Mello, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Bappi Lahiri, Shaan [ Images ] and Neuman Pinto.

Start off with the theme song, Don't Say Alvida (Sonu Nigam, Shreya Ghoshal [ Images ], and Suzanne D'Mello) which comes in three varieties -- regular, sad and remixed! It is a melodious number, which may remind you of the Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna title track, but honestly, the Once upon a time... English chorus and the lame remix version could have been easily done away with.

However, the next one, Happening (Wajid, Sunidhi Chauhan [ Images ], Uvie, Farhad and Raja Mushtaq), is a high-energy qawwali-fusion track, clearly meant to be an 'item' song with some surprises and a consistent pace throughout. While this one does not really break any new musical ground (Main Hoon Na [ Images ] or Bunty Aur Babli [ Images ] anyone?), Sajid-Wajid do give it their own spin, making it a great number to shake a leg to.

Up next, a fun song Mrs Khanna (Bappi Lahiri, Shaan, Sunidhi, Neuman Pinto and Suzanne D'Mello), which is a punchbowl of Bhangra-fusion and English hooks, with a smattering of pop, jazz and guitar solos. It does start off well, but somehow the rest of the song fails to live up to the zestful opening bars. Nevertheless, the song has potential to pick up well.

Rahat Fateh Ali Khan's signature style marks Rabba. It is a slow song of pathos which progresses with some dramatic pauses and melodic pattern. Soulfully sung by Khan, it is surely the connoisseur's choice if you are in the mood for some intense music.

Tail-end surprise comes with Tum ne socha (Wajid, Shreya), which is a decidedly 'Western' number with breezy guitar solos and a riff which is very 1980s. Pleasant.

As always, Sajid-Wajid's songs are no great works of art, but score over the recent releases for being tight, varied and catchy, and barring the somewhat 'wannabe' bias towards English hooks, quite unpretentious.

MAMK's music is very Bollywood in its appeal. With the quintessential love song, the sad song, the fun and remix songs, it delivers to the brief.

Boney Kapoor ordered to deposit Rs 2 cr to release film

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday permitted Boney Kapoor to release his movie 'Wanted' provided he deposits Rs 2 crores latest by September 18.

Boney Kapoor has come in appeal to the apex court against the order of Bombay High Court directing him to pay Rs 10 crores before releasing his movie Wanted.

The movie is scheduled to be released on September 18.

A bench headed by Justice B N Agarwal, however, permitted Boney Kapoor to release his movie subject to the payment of Rs 2 crore instead of Rs 10 crores which was the direction issued by the High Court.

Salman Khan is well-know to turn up fashionably late for all media events. A three-hour long wait is a minimum, and of course, no word of apology.

But then, he is Salman Khan.

Two years ago, when a reporter complained that he could not come so late, Salman said calmly: "If you don't want to wait for me, you can leave the event." Of course, no one ever will.

So history was repeated yet again during the music launch of his new film Main Aurr Mrs Khanna. He arrived three hours late once again, and laid down his rules -- no questions on rumours of him buying a team in the Indian Premier league and no questions on his rival Shah Rukh Khan.

An enthusiastic young reporter asked him about IPL anyway, and got a taste of the Khan medicine when Salman replied with sarcastic politeness: "Beta, don't come here and parrot questions that your bosses told you to."

But there's no denying the actor's quick wit. When someone asked him about working with Kareena Kapoor again after Priyadarshan's big flop Kyun Ki, Salman replied quickly, "Actually, we've renamed that film to Kyun Kiya!"

If there is anyone in the film industry who can bring about a truce between the two warring Khans, it’s Farah Khan. She’s close to both of them. And let’s not forget that when Shahrukh Khan and Salman Khan had their first fight years ago (on the sets of Chalte Chalte), it was Farah who was instrumental in ending that cold war. The feuding Khans had an emotional reunion at the Sangeeth ceremony before Farah’s wedding.

That’s why when folks talk about ending the ongoing friction between SRK and Sallu - the two have been at loggerheads ever since they quarreled at Katrina Kaif’s birthday last year - they look up to Farah Khan as the peacemaker and hope her to do the seemingly impossible.

“I wish I could bridge the gap. I love both of them. It's (the fight) getting longer now,” Farah is quoted as saying by a news agency.

The fondness Salman has for Farah is evident from the fact that he, who never appears on any television shows, made an exception for Farah and not just appeared on the first episode of her chat show ‘Tere Mere Beach Mein’ but also brought his loving mom Salma along. The actor also candidly shared some personal secrets on the show which incidentally is co-produced by SRK’s Red Chillies Entertainment.

However, brokering the peace between the two Khans may not be easy for Farah this time. Just a few days back, Salman stated clearly in an interview that he and SRK “can’t be friends”.

Rani Mukhherjee and Shahid Kapur appeared on Salman Khan’s ‘Dus Ka Dum’ but what caught the maximum attention was Salman’s attitude towards Shahid Kapur. Sallu was not at all friendly towards Shahid and throughout the show, he maintained distance from him. While he was very friendly and cordial with Rani Mukherjee.

Salman and Shahid developed cold vibes during the Rockstar tour three years ago. Since then, the duo always avoided each other but unfortunately Shahid happened to drop on Salman’s ‘Dus Ka Dum’ along with Rani to promote their upcoming film, ‘Dil Bole Hadippa’.

According to eyewitness, "Rani arrived first and went to Salman's dressing room to greet Salman. Later Shahid dropped in to meet the host and break the ice. Salman was cordial but not as warm as he was to Rani."

That there exists a problem between the two is clearly visible as Salman did not gel well with Shahid, "While Salman gave Rani a long, warm hug, all Shahid got was a half-hearted hug - just an arm around the shoulders. Salman never made any attempt to make Shahid feel at ease, like he does with his other contestants. It was obvious that the normally chatty Salman was not at ease with Shahid."

Here is a good news. Salman Khan and Shahid Kapoor, who have been sharing cold rapport for a few years now, have finally decided to patch up. The duo hugged each other at the show 10 Ka Dum hosted by Salman.

Yes, Shahid and Rani Mukherjee participated in the game show 10 Ka Dum to promote their much-hyped film Dil Bole Hidippa. It is said that Salman and Shahid got along very well and hugged each other when they met.

It may be recalled that Shahid and Salman turned enemies after Shahid gave a piece of advice to his senior actor at Rockstars concert a few years ago. A furious Salman even tried to push Shahid out of the show. However, the duo seem to have mended their differences.

Chennai: Madras High Court on Thursday directed Sridevi Productions to furnish a bank guarantee for a sum of Rs 3.6 crore or deposit the amount in cash and also a security for another Rs 5.4 crore within a week, failing which the screening of Hindi movie Wanted, starring Salman Khan, Vinod Khanna and Ayesha, will be stopped.

In his order on a suit filed by Mumbai based G G Photo Ltd, seeking recovery of over Rs 6.74 crore from Sridevi Kapoor, her husband Boney Kapoor and father-in-law Surendra Kapoor, Justice G Rajasuria said if the amount was not deposited within a week orders prohibiting the defendants from screening the film jointly or severally would be enforced.

G G Photo Director Sushil Gupta, who contended that two other suits had also been filed by closely associated business concerns represented by him, said total claim of the three suits was about Rs 7.92 crore.

Gupta said the claims arose out of financial assistance rendered and raw film stock supplied to the defendants.

Claiming that the defendants had admitted their liabilities in their counter affidavits, Gupta contended that the liabilities of the defendants were borne out and admitted in several letters, agreements and cheques duly executed and

issued by them. Boney Kapoor was acting on behalf of all the defendants.

The plaintiff pointed out that the only points of defence raised by the defendents in all the three suits were regarding the jurisdiction of the Madras High Court hear the suits and execution of letters and cheque on January one, 2007.

Gupta claimed that all the three entities Sridevi Productions of which Sri Devi Kapoor is the proprietor, Narasimha Enterprises and S K Films Enterprises with proprietors being Boney Kapoor and Surendra Kapoor, respectively, constituted one business entity in the eyes of law though being operated by Boney Kapoor in three different names for the purpose of internal auditing.

Wanted, a remake of Tamil movie Pokkiri, directed by Prabhu Deva and produced by S K Films was slated for release in a weeks time.

Gupta sought an interim injunction restraining the respondents/defendants from delivering or releasing the prints anywhere in the world in any form without paying the sums claimed in the suit pending its disposal.

Arun Bhairav's predictable wordings may not have heart-piercing feel but the subtleness of flute notes and prolific ''sitar'' displays adds to the serene quotient of this lovable track.

It's ''remix'' is breed apart from the original composition where the tranquil decorum is occupied with loud disco beat fillers adding up to the dancing fervor on floors with predictable bedlam of DJ spins and thrills. Lovable!!!
